We currently support two families
in Mexico. The May family located in Matehuala, and the Strong family in Mante. Both were
sent out from our sister church in Auburn, Alabama, and have been ministering among the
people of those regions for many years.
Matehuala,
Updates:
Pastor Robert May and his family have lived and worked in Matehuala for many years and
have seen tremendous growth and increase for the church there.
Recently, they sent us the following update:
Greetings
from the May family in
Matehuala,
Mexico.
Independence Day
The Mexican Independence Day is September 16. Here's a
VERY ABBREVIATED history of their independence from
Spain.
In 1808, Napoleon invaded
Spain,
and decided to impose his brother José Bonaparte, as king
of
Spain
(1808-1810). The Criollos (people of Spanish parents born
in
Mexico)
found in this circumstance the opportunity to seek their
independence form
Spain.
Influenced by the concepts of liberty, equality and
democracy proposed by the French philosophers Rousseau,
Montesquieu and Voltaire, and by the war of
Independence of the
United States,
they decided to start a revolt. It was 1810, and their
plan was to start the war on the 2nd of October.
Unfortunately, their plans were discovered in early
September. The movement was in trouble. They had two
alternatives; either abandon their plans, or move faster
and start the revolt immediately. They decided upon the
second alternative.
In the early hours of
September 16, 1810, Don Miguel Hidalgo, accompanied by several conspirators, rang the bell
of his little church, calling everyone to fight for
liberty. This was the beginning of the Independence War,
which lasted 10 years.
The
modern custom is for the people of each town to gather at
the main plaza on the night of September 15, and at
11:00 PM reenact
the "Shout of Independence." There are booths set up
around the plaza where food and patriotic items are sold.
Our
Christian school had a booth this year, where we sold
food. We have twenty-five families in the school,
including on-campus and home-schoolers, and we had very
good participation and a lot of fun and fellowship. Check
the website for pictures at

Athletic
Festival
A number
of students (including Aimee) participated in an Athletic
Festival, sponsored by the city government. They all did
very well. We're especially proud of Aimee, who
participated in the category that included the 60 meter
dash, 60 meter hurdles, long jump and ball throwing. SHE
GOT
FIRST PLACE!
Spiritual
Fatherhood
We loaned
our church facilities to another pastor this past weekend,
for a series of meetings. The keynote speaker was a pastor
from
Mexico City, Guillermo
Martínez, who brought some EXCELLENT teaching. We went
last night, and he shared on "Spiritual Fatherhood,"
exactly in line with what we believe.
There
were eight or ten churches represented, over 250 people,
and an anointed word. It was fantastic closing for great
series of meetings.
Thank You
Thank you
all very much for your prayers and support. We really
appreciate you, and thank God for you. Let us hear from
you.
Love in Christ,
Robert and Gail May

Monte Updates:
We hope you are all well.
We are blessed. We wanted to send you an update of
what's going on here in the Mante area. The new church,
"EL PALACIO DEL REY" is starting to grow. We have a
ladies meeting every Tuesday morning, and some of the
ladies from this group have come in. From that meeting
we have had a couple of dinners at different houses,
where the husbands of these ladies have been invited.
From those dinners, we have had at least one husband to
come into the church. He and his wife and son are very
faithful to attend the services. We had our first "fun,
food and fellowship" a couple of Sunday's ago, here at
the house. Had plans to play volleyball and horseshoes,
but it rained, so we just had food and fellowship. It
was a fun time. Last Saturday, we had our first "Church
Workday", where we painted the inside of the building.
We had lots of help, ate taquitos for breakfast, and
then ordered pizza from the new Dominoes here in town.
We were all worn out at the end of the day, but had a
good time working and fellowshipping together.
